What does PHP stand for?

PHP is a scripting language that is often used to program dynamic websites or web applications. PHP is available as a PHP module, is free software and is distributed under the PHP license. Well-known web applications that have been implemented with PHP include Drupal, Typo3 and Magento.

PHP is considered an easy-to-learn programming language and is therefore particularly popular among self-taught programmers. PHPStorm is a development environment that makes the development of PHP applications more convenient.

The development of PHP goes back to the beginnings of Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995. At the time, PHP was still an acronym for "Personal Home Page Tool" and was intended as a replacement for a collection of Perl scripts. In a second step, Lerdorf developed a more comprehensive version of PHP in the C programming language. PHP is still being developed in this language today.
