Domain trading is the commercial trading of Internet addresses (domains). As part of domain trading, the ownership of a domain is transferred from the seller to the buyer for a fee. Domain trading typically thrives on domains that have a high market value for a potential owner. As a rule, these are domains under which the establishment of an online store, for example, is particularly advantageous.

Domains that appear particularly lucrative are registered by traders and linked to a simple website that informs users that the rights to this domain can be purchased as part of a domain trade. Domains that are relatively well listed on search engine results pages (search engine optimization, SEO) are particularly sought after in domain trading.
