What exactly does Yahoo do?

Yahoo is an American internet company that operates an internet search engine in addition to other web services. The search engine can be used by Internet users as an alternative to Google or Microsoft (Bing), for example. Its database was initially maintained by Yahoo employees (editors).

The automated procurement and evaluation of further data material only took place at Yahoo later with the support of crawlers. Search engine optimization(SEO) is also possible for Yahoo's search engine.

According to Wikipedia, Yahoo offers the following services in addition to a search engine:

  • AltaVista (discontinued in July 2013)
  • Delicious (sold in mid-2011)
  • Flickr
  • MyBlogLog (discontinued on May 24, 2011 and replaced by Yahoo Pulse)
  • Tumblr
